A Field Guide to Catching Crickets by A. Wilding Wells

Coming June 7th!

I received a ARC of this amazing story for my honest review. I was excited to read this story, because I had read A. Wilding Well's other story, How to Tame Beasts and Other Wild Things and loved it.

This book is no different!

While some might think the topics and situations are taboo, or even dark, they are real.

This story, like her others, expose the reader to real life! It's not shy or politically correct. The stories could be non-fiction, they get to the dirty messy parts of our lives and show case all of the imperfections that make us who we are!

The story revolves around Sloan and Hawke. These two have been part of each others life since they were kids. Hawke was almost like a fifth kid for Sloan's family. They end up falling completely and hopelessly in love when she is 15 and he's 18. But one day out of the blue, Sloan tells Hawke that she is moving to Amsterdam with her grandmother. The break up nearly kills Hawke, but he continues his life, filing it with film production, and becomes the most famous porn star in the US. Fast forward ten years and Sloan's brother and best friend are getting married. She comes back after no communication with Hawke and most of her family, with a dark past with so many secrets.

The book has flashbacks of their life together ten years ago, as well as what is currently happening between these two. Sloan knows she has secrets that have to be shared with Hawke but she's so afraid that he will walk away from her. Mean while Hawke is trying to be patient, but he can't stop from loving his Cricket and wanting a future together no matter the past holds.

Can they learn to love the people they are now, and can Sloane find the redemption she is so desperately looking for.

This is an amazing story, and I wish I could give it more than 5 stars! P.S. Where's the cricket emoji?

***** 5 Stars
